This is a beautiful little collage by Jesse Treece. I found it while stumbling on a website called Escape Into Life. Check it out if you get a chance! http://www.escapeintolife.com

Artist of the Week: Frank Gehry

Words cannot describe how lovely these lamps can be. He creates complex, strong structures then fills them with these soft, transparent, light works of art that function as well? When I saw the letters on the lamps, made of paper I fell in love!

Gustav Klimt

Everytime I work I see this piece of art in some form or another. In a book, on a box of mints you can buy or postcards. The more I see it the more I realize how beautiful it is and how warm it makes me feel.

And I love the detail. Oh, the detail.

Stuck.

I find myself in an art school crisis state of mind. The future lies before me and I want to go a hundred directions but everyone is saying you need to have a collective body of work.

I find myself drawn to artists like Matt Hopson Walker and Charles Burchfield. Listening to a video about Burchfield they show how he worked, taking from his old work and we working them so much they look completely different. He took his old paintings and added on paper, then redrew them with new imagery. I think this is a lovely idea. They also mention how he made handmade books for all of his paintings, incorporating his new sketches and ideas.

I want to do something like this but I don't know how. I feel the ideas rolling around in my head but they struggle to come out. Sketchbooks. This is my answer. I need to draw in my sketchbooks and keep them. Go back and look at them and then draw more. Then look again.

Borrowing from and creating my own artistic narrative has been hard but I need to do it more. I wrote it down here in hopes that I will see this, remember what I was thinking and keep that idea of motivation going strong.
